Pig Down

While we were in Seattle this past weekend, the big news was that the famous "Rachel the pig" at Pike Place Market was knocked down by a runaway taxi cab.

From the Examiner.com
"Saturday was a rough day for Seattle’s Rachel the Pig. A taxi driver turned into the landmark at Pike’s Place Market, knocking the bronze pig over.

Rachel is a 550-lb bronze pig that has been a part of the market since 1986. Rachel is a popular spot  for the photo opportunist, and she also serves as a piggy bank that collects around $6,000 to $9,000 per year, which is managed by the Market Foundation and is used for various social services.
The taxi driver was reportedly rear-ended and quickly turned while accelerating, crashing his car into the pig, knocking her off her concrete home.

There are people saddened by the absence of Rachel and one person has left a note with flowers on the concrete base that will become her home again in just a few days."

We've seen Rachel so many times and have good memories of her. We hope she gets well soon.
