I love making homemade treats as gifts and at Christmastime, that includes the family pets, too!
This year, I made Peanut Butter Goodness Dog Treats
{Shhhhh-----for my SIL's dogs and for Smalls too, of course}
Ingredients: (makes 12-17 cookies)
1/2 cup rolled oats
2 Tbsp. + 2 tsp. melted butter
1/2 cup boiling water
1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp. cornmeal
1 tsp. organic sugar
1/4 cup skim milk
1/2 of an egg, beaten
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup organic peanut butter
1. Preheat oven to 325F. In a large bowl, combine oats, boiling water and melted butter. Let stand 10 minutes. Grease cookie sheet.
2. Stir in cornmeal, sugar, milk and egg. Mix in flour 1/2 cup at a time until a stiff dough has formed.
3. Knead dough in a lightly floured surface, mixing in flour as necessary until dough is smooth and no longer sticky. Roll dough out to 1/4 to 1/2" thickness. Cut with a cookie cutter and place about 1 inch apart on cookie sheet.
5. Cool before serving. Store in a loosely covered container.
I used a pre-made Martha Stewart gift containers as my boxes.
